Heather, Newps, Hedgie…

Heather is my given name.  I think my mom picked it because it couldn’t be shortened.  For most of my life, I never had a nickname that was a shortened version of my name.  In my professional life, I was given the nickname Newps, a shortened form of my last name Newport, about 10 years ago.  Having never really had a nickname outside of my family, I instantly loved it!  In my family, everyone has a given name and a nickname.  The source of my nickname and the store name comes from a very special place. Three of the greatest loves of my life, Sarah, Daniel, and Alex. I'm so lucky to be their aunt. Heather is a difficult name for little kids to say. It started with Sarah, who always called me something that sounded like "Hadja." When Daniel came along, he morphed it into "Hedgie." Alex added Mars to the end and Hedgie Mars was born.

So why a kitchen store?

I am obsessed with kitchen stuff. I could easily fill 100 kitchens with all the stuff I'd love to buy. Since I really don't need another thing for my own kitchen, I thought I'd help other people fill their kitchens. Trust me when I say, I would put all of these items in my own kitchen. I also love whimsy. I love throwbacks to the 30s, 40s, and 50s. I love all things British.  I thought the Southside of Indianapolis was lacking in both kitchen and gift stores, so here we are. Is it a kitchen store that sells gifts or a gift store that sells kitchen stuff?  Either way, I think you are going to love it!
